Everything you need to know about Siberian Huskies

About Siberian Huskies

If you own a Siberian Husky, or are thinking about buying one, you have come to the right site. I have owned a Siberian Husky for two years and absolutely love the breed. Here's some info about the Siberian Husky.

  • Temperament: The Siberian Husky has a fun loving temperament. The husky will not make for a good guard dog, because they will greet the burglar with a smile and tail wagging. They are very friendly towards people and children. They get along well with other dogs and rarely bark. They have high energy, so you will need to exercise them regularly.
  • Physical Features: The Siberian Husky often has piercing blue eyes, but may also have brown ones. They are an arctic breed from the spitz family. Huskies come in four traditional colors, black and white, grey and white, red and white, or all white. They are a medium sized dog with females averaging 35-50 pounds and males averaging 45-60.
  • Trainability: Huskies require an "alpha male" in the household. Once your husky knows that it is not the alpha, your dog will be much more trainable. The husky is incredibly intelligent, but has a serious stubborn side. The husky can learn many tricks one day, only to completely ignore your commands the next.
  • History: The Siberian Husky is know as a working dog. They get this title from their history of pulling sleds in the arctic. The Siberian Husky was bred in northeastern Siberia by the Chukchi people. They were bred for transportation and protecting their children while they were away. Since the husky was around children so much, only non-aggressive dogs were kept. This is why huskies are so friendly today. The Siberian Husky is well known for its role in the Iditarod race in Alaska.
